If you’re like me, you enjoy reading old-timey descriptions of sports and checking out the excellent uniforms.

So if you’re like me, you’ll think the Colorado Vintage Base Ball Association is pretty excellent, even though it lacks the waxed mustaches I was sort of expecting.

The hurler tossed a cookie right down the middle and the striker crushed it into left field. The left scout lost it in the tall grass, allowing the striker to score an ace.

Translation: The pitcher threw a ball that was easy to hit. The hitter drove that ball to left field, where it bounced into the wild grass in the unmanicured meadow serving as Sunday’s baseball diamond. The left fielder was unable to locate the ball, so the hitter scored a run.

Welcome to the world of 1864-rules “base ball.”

Check out plenty more about the Colorado Vintage Base Ball Association in Joe Rubino’s story at the Camera.
