Greeley got a heavy dose of metal at the Rocky Mountain Goat Roast this weekend, including some from Boulder’s own Centimani.

Here’s a pretty excellent, short story on how the Rocky Mountain Goat Roast went:

“Let’s keep the pit violent, come on!” yelled the lead singer of Boulder-based Centimani, offering a prize package for the person who was the craziest.

The event drew metal fans from throughout Colorado, what Crabtree and Denver promoter Brian Huffaker had been hoping for. Flyers were distributed as far north as Wyoming, and as far south as New Mexico.

Shodekeh

The Conference on World Affairs, much like the Colorado Shakespeare Festival and Colorado Music Festival, isn’t a once-a-year deal. No, the CWA has brought speakers and performers to Boulder outside of regular CWA season for just over a decade, the Sept. 8, 2010 installment looks to be interesting:

Human beatboxer and hip hop artist Shodekeh will perform for free on the University of Colorado campus Sept. 8.

CU’s Conference on World Affairs Athenaeum will host the concert that is open to the public. The event will be at 7 p.m. in the ballroom in CU’s University Memorial Center.

Long before you likely bit into a Sinkburger, college students were scrawling on the ceilings there enjoying wild nights with 3.2 beer.

Local historian Silvia Pettem wrote a piece for the Camera on the history of the Sink:

The Sink, at 13th St. and Pennsylvania Ave., had begun as a restaurant called Sommers Sunken Garden. It opened in a former fraternity house in the mid-1920s in an addition designed by architect Glen H. Huntington. A few steps led down into a seating area. Before long, college students started referring to the sunken area as “the sink.”

In 1950, the owner of Sommers Sunken Garden obtained a license for 3.2 percent beer–the only alcoholic beverage that was legal, at the time within Boulder`s city limits. When the beer started flowing, the management changed the restaurant and bar`s name to the Sink.

If you missed Folks Fest and want to get a better sense of it, local designer/beer guy/hero Josh Mishell took a whole slew of photos — enough to split them into Day 1, Day 2 and Day 3 sets, anyway.

And it’s just as I suspected: a whole weekend of partying in the sun, much of the time with banjos.

Lionel Young Band

I have no good excuse for not hanging out at the Outlook more often for blues music. It’s a good time down there, as the Lionel Young Band demonstrates in this video from the weekend:

It’s the moment some of you have been waiting for… Phish have scheduled three shows in Broomfield and the word got out to the Post:

Internet message boards have been busy with rumors of the band’s quick return to the Rockies. Sure enough, Phish is scheduled to play three shows at the 1stBank Center in Broomfield on Oct. 10-12, a source told The Denver Post.

CU's 2010 Welcome Back concert

Dear students,

Welcome back.

Glad you had a good time at a concert some of us could hear, but couldn’t go to.

But seriously, it looks like this was a pretty good Welcome Back show. If you went, let me hear about it.

Kelsie Huff returns to the Boulder Fringe with a new play titled "Bruiser."

It’s that time again:

a little bit of everything: a post-apocalyptic opera, stories about dating seniors, a one-woman comedy about a drama teacher, a serious look at Cesar Chavez, magic shows, late-night comedy, performance workshops and a movement piece that takes place in a vacant lot.

The Fringe Festival kicks off Wednesday and runs through August 28. Check out the full schedule to see which of the many shows you’ll want to see.

Funky Tut.

Yes, folks. King Tut’s stuff is in Denver. People are still freakin’ out over it. King Tut at the Denver Art Museum – Denver Colorado:
