Your mom, bikini season and a sexy body: Weekender 5/6-5/9

With the arrival of bikini season, I find myself turning down pints and opting for kickboxing, muscle tone and Nia classes during happy hour, hoping I’ll get back to my pre-winter physique. This was extremely difficult to handle yesterday, knowing I was the only one in Boulder not drinking a marg at the Rio for Cinco de Mayo. I know it sounds lame, but I’m purposefully avoiding my favorite (high-cal) places – the Southern Sun, Taco Bell and May Wah’s take-out. I've had to look for fun in other places, and I've come up with a list of activities for the weekend that will get you moving, outside and away from unhealthy food.

Kurt Cobain, beer and wine: weekender 4/29

With the relentless April (snow) showers, I think it’s safe to say that we all should stay in and play this weekend. Head down to Lafayette to see a tribute to Kurt Cobain and hear the songs of our generation. And, if you are the imbibing sort, head to the Boulder Brew and Music Festival at Fox Theatre and WineFest in Denver. Stay dry!

Earth, John Denver and beer: Weekender 4/22

In the spirit of Mother Nature, this weekend’s activities are dedicated to loving the Earth – with a beer in hand and some bluegrass or John Denver playing in the background. Cheers Mother Nature!

Spring cleaning and the St. Julien: Weekender 4/1/10

Week three of unemployment has yielded an extraordinary amount of productive activity, including everything from making my apartment more feng shui (I moved a sectional by myself!) to job interviews. I’m starting fresh with the arrival of spring -- out with the old, in with the new. I’m trying new things, like hanging out at swanky places like the St. Julien. And I’m even considering trying a new hike on Sunday.

Here’s the line-up for this weekend.

Unemployment, yoga and beer: Weekender 3/25/10

by Marissa Hermanson

Week two of unemployment has caused me to venture out and try new things – exercise classes. I have been going to the rec center a few mornings a week to take muscle toning and yoga classes with women who 40 to 70 years old and who are in better shape than me. It’s a humbling -- and embarrassing -- experience. Nonetheless, I have tons of free time in my day and have found myself taking brewery tours and watching “Whip It” just to keep myself preoccupied. Here are a few fun activities that I've stumbled upon to fill my weekend.

Boogie, b-ball and the Blending Cellar: Weekender 3/19/10

Recently, I have found myself unemployed, and in my first week of unemployment I have found different ways of being useful – refinishing furniture, finally getting around to making that hair appointment and taking my dog, Harvey, for longer and more frequent walks. All this … Read More
